The Call to Action for BSC

The Call to Action for BSC

For Immediate Release
Oct. 27, 2023

BSC students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends, here are the best ways to let your voice be heard and urge State Treasurer Young Boozer to uphold the law:

Email State Treasurer Young J. Boozer III at [email protected] and call him at (334) 242-7501 or (334) 242-7523.

  • Ask him to come back to the table and work with BSC to get an agreement on the funding that the Legislature set aside for BSC through the Distressed Institutions of Higher Learning Revolving Loan Fund.
  • Tell him that it is never too late to "do the right thing the right way, and do it right away" for the people of Alabama--as he has publicly stated is the guiding principle of his life.
  • Ask him how Alabama can afford to lose nearly $100 million of economic impact each year generated by the College.
  • Let him know how his denial of funding for BSC will impact you as a student, a parent, a member of the faculty or staff, or as a proud BSC graduate.

Email Gov. Kay Ivey at contact.governor.alabama.gov and call her at (334) 242-7100.

  • Ask Gov. Ivey to urge Treasurer Boozer to work with BSC to get an agreement on the funding the Legislature set aside for BSC through the Distressed Institutions of Higher Learning Revolving Loan Fund.
  • Remind her that in her inaugural address on Jan. 16, 2023, she promised to make improving education her top priority and reiterated that pledge in her March 8, 2023 State of the State address.
  • Let her know how Boozer's denial of funding to BSC will affect you as a student, a parent, a member of the faculty or staff, or as a proud BSC graduate.
  • Ask her how Alabama can afford to lose nearly $100 million of economic impact each year generated by the College.
  • Tell her that it is never too late to do the right thing for the people of Alabama.

Email and call your Alabama State Senator and Representative – find that information here by entering your home address. If you are from out of state, use your campus address.

  • Thank them for their support of the loan program.
  • Ask them to reach out to the State Treasurer to ask him to reconsider.
  • Let them know how Boozer's denial of funding to BSC will affect you as a student, a parent, a member of the faculty or staff, or a proud BSC graduate.
  • Also remind them of the nearly $100 million in economic impact BSC generates each year in Alabama, which will go away forever if the Treasurer's denial of the loan stands.
